CITY OF COLD LAKE RELEASE:
The floor of the Reid Field House in the Cold Lake Energy Centre has undergone its first resurfacing since the facility originally opened in 2008.
The project was recently completed, with a new urethane coating and reapplication of the existing sports lines in the facility. Also added where lines for six sets of badminton courts, six sets of pickleball courts and eight new core holes to allow for the posts and nets where needed. Two basket ball nets were also installed at the facility to increase the scope of programming.
“This facility has hosted everything from fundraisers to fight nights,” Mayor Craig Copeland said. “It has seen trade shows, concerts, kids’ birthday parties, provincial tournaments, and has even been converted into a shelter for families escaping wildfires. Over the years, the Reid Field House has served our community well and it is good to see the facility well taken care of. The facelift it has received should see many more community events and milestones.”
The Reid Field House has 1,400 square metres of adaptable flooring. The new floor was changed to a base colour of grey versus the previous green to better accommodate the facility’s frequent role as a space for galas, fundraisers and special events.
The facility has the following lines to accommodate sports:
- Badminton – white lines
- Pickleball – light green lines
- Cross-Court Volleyball – yellow lines
- Volleyball – ruby red lines
- Lacrosse – dark blue lines
- Soccer – pastel orange lines
- Tennis – light blue lines
- Cross-Court Basketball – black lines
The floor resurfacing and basketball net installation was completed at a total project cost of just over $124,000.
